What I Learned Building a Service Business Website
I recently helped build the web presence for a carpet cleaning and dyeing business. The technical stack was straightforward — Next.js, Tailwind, Vercel — but the real lessons were in understanding what makes a service business website convert.
The Phone Number Rule
The phone number should appear in at least 5 places on every page: header, hero, process section, contact area, and footer. Service businesses live and die by phone calls. Every scroll position should have a tap-to-call within thumb reach on mobile.
Before and After Is Everything
For a cleaning business, before/after photos are the most powerful conversion tool. They bypass all the copywriting — a visitor sees a stained carpet become clean and thinks "I want that." Interactive sliders that let users drag between states are even better.
Schema Markup Matters
